The Photography of Francesca Woodman

As I might have hinted a couple of blog posts ago - don't remember, I'm getting old and cranky - I want to blog about things that I am personally fascinated by even if they come from anywhere but the Fashion World. In today's entry I want to share with you the captivating work of the late photographer Francesca Woodman, photos which I consider to be an example of black on white art. Her melancholic stance in her work reveals a certain degree of what I like to call 'contagious emptiness' that reminds me a lot of Sylvia Plath. Indeed, the selection of Francesca Woodman photos I chose for you are very much a visual, photographic translation of the predominant emotion observed in the poetry of the late Plath (oh, and they both committed suicide). The use of lens aperture as well as the decaying settings in which the photos are captured fit the overall mood of the photos like a glove.
